Annuals
were first published in the late 19th Century. Bound editions of the
Chatterbox and Boys Own Paper for instance became popular.
Collecting began quite early on.
Today most
enthusiasts collect annuals that they read as a child. Perhaps the
most popular being Beano, Dandy and Rupert annuals
You can chart a
childhood through annuals for instance: Robin, Eagle, Victor to
Shoot or Twinkle, Bunty, Jackie to Blue Jeans.
The 1950s to 1970s
was probably the golden age of annuals. With the increasing number
of television related annuals such as Star Trek, Doctor Who,
Blue Peter, Play Hour and Joe 90 adding to the comic and magazine
generated output.
